By:     Topics: Make Money Online     More posts about: ,

In today’s digital age, having a website is a valuable asset. Not only can it be a platform to share your ideas and connect with others, but it can also be a source of income.

If you’re looking to monetize your website, there are a variety of ways to do so. In this article, we’ll explore 14 different ways to make money with a website. Whether you’re a blogger, entrepreneur, or just looking to earn some extra cash, these methods can help you turn your website into a profitable venture.

All the best ways to make money online

1. Email Marketing

Email marketing can be a very effective way to make money from your website. Here are some tips on how to make money from a website using email marketing:

1. Build a targeted email list: Start by building a list of subscribers who are interested in your website’s niche. You can offer a free ebook or other valuable content to incentivize people to sign up for your email list.

2. Segment your email list: Divide your email list into segments based on interests, behavior, and other criteria. This will allow you to send targeted messages to each segment, improving the relevance and effectiveness of your emails.

3. Create valuable content: Your emails should provide value to your subscribers. This can include blog posts, videos, infographics, and other content that helps your subscribers solve problems or achieve their goals.

4. Include calls-to-action: Encourage your subscribers to take action by including calls-to-action in your emails. This can include links to your website, products, or services, as well as calls-to-action to share your content or refer others to your website.

5. Use automation: Use email automation to send targeted messages to your subscribers at the right time. This can include welcome emails, abandoned cart reminders, and other automated messages that help you make money from your website without having to constantly monitor your email list.

By following these tips, you can use email marketing to make money from your website and build a loyal audience of subscribers who are interested in your content and offerings.

2. Affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing is one of the most popular ways to make money from a website. Essentially, you promote someone else’s product on your website and earn a commission for each sale that you help to generate.

To get started with affiliate marketing, you’ll typically need to join an affiliate program and select the products that you want to promote. Then you can create content on your website that incorporates links to those products. The key is to make sure that your content is valuable and relevant to your audience, so that they’re more likely to click on your affiliate links and make a purchase. With the right strategy, affiliate marketing can be a lucrative way to monetize your website.

3. Create & Sell Your Own Physical or Digital Product

Creating and selling your own products is a great way to make money from a website. To get started, firstly:

1. Identify a niche market: Choose a niche that you are passionate about and which has a demand in the market.

2. Develop a product: Once you have identified your niche, develop a product that meets the needs of your target audience. You can create digital products like e-books, courses, software, or physical products like T-shirts, mugs, or other merchandise.

3. Set up an online store: You can set up an online store on your website or use a third-party platform like Etsy, Shopify, or WooCommerce to sell your products.

4. Market your products: Once your online store is set up, you need to market your products to your target audience. You can use social media, email marketing, content marketing, or paid advertising to reach your potential customers.

5. Provide excellent customer service: Make sure to provide excellent customer service and address any issues or concerns your customers may have. This will help you build a loyal customer base and increase your sales over time.

Remember, creating and selling your own products takes time and effort, but it can be a lucrative way to monetize your website and turn your passion into a profitable business.

4. Sell Advertising Space

One way to make money from your website is by selling advertising space. To do this, you’ll need to have a website with a decent amount of traffic and an engaged audience. Advertisers are looking for websites with a specific demographic, so it’s important to know your audience and create content that appeals to them.

Once you have a good understanding of your audience, you can start reaching out to potential advertisers. You can either do this directly by contacting companies that you think would be a good fit for your website, or you can sign up for advertising networks like Google AdSense or Media.net, which will automatically place ads on your site and pay you a commission for each click or impression.

It’s important to make sure that the ads you display on your website are relevant to your audience and don’t interfere with the user experience. Too many ads or invasive pop-ups can turn off visitors and hurt your credibility.

Another option is to sell sponsored content or sponsored posts on your website. This involves partnering with a company to create content that promotes their product or service. Again, it’s important to disclose any sponsored content to your readers and make sure that it aligns with your brand and values.

Overall, selling advertising space on your website can be a great way to generate income, but it’s important to approach it strategically and maintain the trust of your audience.

5. Review products on your website

First, you’ll need to choose a niche or industry that you’re passionate about and that has a large audience. This could be anything from beauty products to tech gadgets to outdoor gear.

Next, you’ll need to create a website or blog that focuses on your chosen niche and showcases your product reviews. Your website should be easy to navigate and include high-quality photos and detailed descriptions of each product you review.

Once you’ve established your website, you can start reaching out to companies for product samples to review. Many companies are eager to work with bloggers and influencers to get their products in front of a wider audience.

As you start to build a following and attract more traffic to your website, you can monetize your reviews by including affiliate links to the products you review. This allows you to earn a commission on any sales generated through your website.

You can also consider partnering with brands for sponsored content or advertising opportunities. Just be sure to disclose any sponsored content or affiliate links to your readers to maintain transparency and trust.

Overall, making money by reviewing products on your website can be a fun and rewarding way to build a successful online business. With hard work and dedication, you can attract a loyal following and generate a steady stream of income.

6. Offer a service

If you’re looking to make money by selling services from a website, there are several steps you can take to increase your chances of success.

First, you’ll need to determine what services you want to offer and what makes you stand out from the competition. Then you can create a website that showcases your services and provides potential clients with information on what you can offer them.

Next, you’ll need to market your services to attract clients. This can involve using SEO (search engine optimization) techniques to rank your website higher in search engine results pages, using social media to reach a wider audience, and leveraging online advertising to drive traffic to your site.

Once you’ve attracted clients, it’s important to provide them with high-quality service that meets or exceeds their expectations. This can lead to repeat business and positive word-of-mouth referrals, which can be valuable for growing your business.

In terms of pricing, it’s important to set rates that are competitive and reflect the value of your services. You may want to consider offering package deals or discounts to attract new clients.

Overall, making money by selling services from a website can be a great way to build a successful business. With the right strategy and approach, you can attract clients and generate a steady stream of revenue.

7. Create a Job Board

This works like this:

People looking to hire someone will post a job on your board and readers will apply for the job. This is a great method of monetizing a website which I have seen done by a lot of authority websites.

On the other hand, I have seen smaller blogs try to do this and completely fail because it’s competitive and if you can’t send them anyone to apply, it’s pointless for them to post a job. Jobs can be anything from, writers to trainers.

As for what software to use, I recommend you check out Fiverr. They have a selection of freelancers who specialize in creating job board websites.

When it comes to marketing your job board, you will want to use some of your advertising space to promote the job board so that readers will see it and apply for jobs.

Charge a low price at the beginning so that you can attract a lot of customers and when they get applications and customers they will be happy to return.

Problogger is a fantastic example of a Job Board.

Ask yourself, can I create a job board for my niche?

If you can, it can become a very good source of income.

smartest ways you can make money online

Benefits:

  • Completely hands off, you don’t have to do anything.
  • Adds to credibility

Drawbacks:

  • Doesn’t work for small blogs
  • Very competitive at times.

8. Offer a Membership Site or Premium Content

Launching a membership website can be a great way to monetize your content and build a community of like-minded individuals. Here is a brief guide to help you launch your own membership website:

1. Choose a niche: Identify a specific topic or interest that you’re passionate about and that has a demand in the market.

2. Define your membership levels: Decide on the different membership levels you want to offer to your members. You could offer a free membership level with limited access to content, and then offer paid membership levels with more extensive content and features.

3. Create your content: Develop high-quality content that provides value to your members. You can create articles, videos, webinars, courses, or any other type of content that fits your niche.

4. Choose a membership platform: Select a membership platform that fits your needs and budget. Some popular options include MemberPress, Teachable, Kajabi, and Thinkific.

5. Set up your payment system: Choose a payment gateway and set up your payment system to accept payments from your members. Popular options include PayPal, Stripe, and Authorize.net.

6. Launch your website: Once you have created your content, set up your membership platform, and integrated your payment system, it’s time to launch your website. Make sure to promote your website through social media, email marketing, and other channels to attract members.

Remember, launching a membership website takes time and effort, but it can be a lucrative way to monetize your content and build a community of loyal followers.

9. Sell Paid Directory Listings

This isn’t very common but I believe it should be.

I see it as a smart way to sell advertising, you see instead of putting adverts on your sidebar, you have a directory on your blog where you link to different companies and websites in your industry and charge a premium for the listing. If you charged a monthly fee, so for example, say you had 1000 people listed in your directory and charged $7 a month, you would earn $7000 a month in continuity.

In some ways, this is actually beneficial to the reader, say you have a website about becoming a model, in the directory could be a section for photographers, where photographers pay to list their services. Models will come and look for the right person to take pictures of them for their portfolio, helpful and profitable.

Just like a job board, I would add adverts to my blog, promoting the directory to make sure customers are happy with the number of people seeing their ad and the traffic they get. To start with, I would even advertise on other sites to get people to list in your directory, as well as reaching out to people and company’s to buy a listing.

Benefits:

  • Highly profitable.
  • Useful to readers.
  • Makes you stand out as your doing something different.
  • Nearly guaranteed income.

Drawback:

  • Costs to setup.
  • It may not work well for smaller sites

10. Host Webinars & Sell Something

Webinars are great at selling high price products, either as a product owner or as an affiliate.

Alternatively, you could set up a free webinar that you replay once a week, teach something, and then at the end, you sell them into 4 more webinars. Once you complete the webinar series, you now have a product that you can sell as a home study course

Here is a great introduction to how to sell with webinars.

Ways To Make Money From a Website

Benefits:

  • High priced, low amount of customers, so low support.
  • Readers want to connect with you.
  • Highly beneficial to those who buy.
  • Great way to teach.

Drawbacks:

  • If you’re doing live webinars, your exchanging time for money.
  • Investment for software.
  • People have to turn up at a specific time, hard for different time zones.

11. Write Tutorials & Promote Something

Another thing I don’t see often, but I love to do!

Content is what everyone is after, that’s why they come to your website, so create content that includes them buying something so that when they do buy, they buy via an affiliate link, and make you money!

What I do to create a tutorial, is I start with the product, find one that you are using and you get a lot out of, it of course needs to have an affiliate program. Then do a tutorial about doing something using that tool.

So for example it could be a post about Photography and take a specific type of photo but you need this lens to do it.

Benefits:

  • Makes great content.
  • Good for search engines.
  • Profitable long term.
  • Quick to produce.

Drawbacks:

  • Finding enough products that have affiliate programs.
  • Some people may not be interested because they don’t yet have the product.

12. Publish a Book

A lot of people want to write a book, however, they have no audience.

A blog can bring you branding, can help you connect with other people in your industry, help you understand what people like to read about, more importantly, what people don’t like. Here is an article we published on writing a best-selling book.

A lot of people don’t consider a book because you only get a couple of dollars a book but that’s not just what you earn.

Publishing a book can allow you to then launch a product because people always want more, also a more exciting prospect is being paid to speak. If you are published, you’re automatically seen as an expert, it doesn’t matter if you never sell more than a dozen books, this means you can charge to speak and charge a lot more for consulting.

There are so many different ways to go about publishing a book, most choose self-publish but if your blog is successful, either they will find you or in my case, a friend connected me with his published and told me I should write a book. Someone in your industry who blogs will also have published a book, help them and they will help you.

Benefits:

  • Authority.
  • Long-term earnings.
  • Increase your charge for consulting.
  • Paid to speak at events.

Drawbacks:

  • Timely or expensive if you have a ghostwriter.
  • Doesn’t make you a lot of money on its own.

13. Offer Live Training and Workshops

Just like selling consulting and services, you could also use your blog to sell live training, workshops and seminars.

People read your blog but I wouldn’t be surprised if over 80% don’t act on what you say. Having a workshop means they learn from you and implement with you, this is a very attractive offer to some people and they are willing to pay high prices to do it.

You don’t just make money from the price of the ticket but you can also make money from selling follow up workshops and masterminds. If you bring in speakers, then you also collect 50% of everything they make if they sell from the stage at the end. Another thing to consider is recording the event and then selling that as a product on your blog.

Putting on an event is a daunting thing, however, it really isn’t to hard. Ring up a hotel, book a conference room, now you have a date, write a blog post and send everyone on your mailing list to that page.

Mention your event everywhere and keep hustling! Apart from that, all you NEED to do is create your slides and turn up. Some of my friends even hire people to run everything for them so they don’t have to worry about the event side of things.

make money online organize conferences

Benefits:

  • Can make you a lot of money.
  • Can be made into a product.
  • People will invite you to speak at their events so that you can sell yours.
  • Makes you an authority.

Drawbacks:

  • Time-consuming.
  • Selling can sometimes be hard.
  • Stressful for first-timers and often the pros. You think the deal is done and then it falls apart at the last minute.

14. Sell Your Website – The Ultimate Way To Make Money Online

Selling a website can be a complex process, to get started:

1. Determine the value of your website: Before you can sell your website, you need to determine its value. Factors that can affect the value of your website include traffic, revenue, content quality, and overall market demand.

2. Prepare your website for sale: Once you have determined the value of your website, you need to prepare it for sale. This may involve cleaning up the website design, updating content, and ensuring that all legal and financial documents are in order.

3. List your website for sale: You can list your website for sale on a variety of online marketplaces, such as Flippa, Empire Flippers, or FE International. Make sure to provide detailed information about your website, such as traffic, revenue, and growth potential.

4. Negotiate with potential buyers: After listing your website for sale, you may receive offers from potential buyers. It’s important to negotiate with them to ensure that you get the best possible price for your website.

5. Transfer ownership: Once you have agreed on a sale price with a buyer, you need to transfer ownership of the website to them. This may involve transferring website files, domain ownership, and any other relevant documents.

Remember, selling a website can be a lengthy and complex process, and it’s important to do your research and work with trusted partners to ensure a smooth transaction.

  1. LOL! I like the “Drawback: You no longer have a website” part.

    • Exactly what I thought too – !! good comment 🙂

    • Peter Hutyr says

Undeniable truths at IncomeDiary and superb content too. Income diary is the best so far in my online learning, great tutorials, unequaled interviews, Michael you are the best example to us all.

      Cheers.

  2. Nisha Stephy says

I’m a contributing writer to a news blog.

What would be the perfect way to monetize a NEWS BLOG? I’ve tried Adsense but no results as the traffic is very very low.

My earnings depend on the earning potential of the blog….!!

  3. As always a great article Michael and I think you covered the topic very well… and of course the model used in this post… telling others how to make money can be pretty profitable if you know what you talk about.

  4. Wow, I just realize Popup Domination was created by you Michael! Haha, seen it in many blogs.
Thanks for the great list, blog needs hard work too in order to succeed, like this list, choose few and focus on building will bring long term profits.
Currently I just use Adsense for my blog, which I only have very small traffic every month for the moment.
Will keep building up, thanks Michael for the sharing. =D

  5. Pop-up Domination is my very next puchase. This is a very informative post. Thanks!!

  9. Joshua Zamora says

Great post Michael! I’m a huge fan of email marketing and affiliate marketing. And definitely need the sharpen up on your other recommendations.

Thanks for these tips man you’re rockin it!

  10. Daniel Edmondson says

great post thanks for the additional ideas!

  11. With hosting events MAKE SURE you get event insurance that covers “bump in” and “bump out” periods as well as the event itself. Brendan Burchard tells the story about how he was sued into bankruptcy from an event he hosted and someone injured themselves during setup and he had no insurance.

Actually, from my own personal experience of doing roadshows and events (not in the IM niche, but in real business) I would strongly suggest you hire a professional Event Coordinator to do the planning. You’ll save money in the end despite paying for the service. They usually have great deals with hotels and can handle the logistics. From experience, if you’ve got a couple hundred people turning up to hear you speak, your focus should be EXCLUSIVELY on the content, not when morning drinks will be served or if the name tags are out or whatever.

  12. Awesome post Mike! Love the way you share your opinion 🙂 The last point sounds funny! I’m sure you would like to go for that one someday? Thanks for sharing man! You rock 🙂

  13. Wow! This list is not something you read once. I know I will have to review this several times just to get an idea in my mind as to what to do next. I’ve got the passive income flowing, now I’m working on my services pages. Maybe that will extend into email subscriptions, and then job boards! I think you could actually lay out a nice plan of attack to achieving all these items, when done in the correct order.

Am just in my 20’s and i only got $100 bucks to invest, if you could give me a guide on how to utilize this money i would be mos great full (currently an undergraduate in Nigeria)

  41. Peter Buzzrain says

    Hello Michael!

I really enjoyed your post (and your website design). ; )

I think that the membership & premium content is the best way to make money online and it is becoming more and more popular. It is not for everyone but it is very rewarding. Just think about this, 50 users x $39 a month is = $2000 and you just have to work for this 50 members, you don’t have to be constantly marketing for getting new clients!

In your post you mentioned that it one of the cons to the membership way was that it was a lot of trouble to setup. I believe you were referring to the content part. The reality is, you don’t have create all your premium content before you open your membership website! In fact, you should do the opposite, slowly create content each week based on members feedback because this way you know you are creating something they like.

I think in the future we will see a lot more membership websites, especially in non-internet related niches.

Developing the know-how and skills and then truly understanding how your target audience, (buyers/visitors/customers/subscribers etc.) thinks is not just simply a walk in the park. After reaching a level of competency in the online industry it gives rise to competence and confidence. At that point one is perceived as as trustworthy. Credentials mean nothing without substance. You have the credentials based on what I just read and have seen on your site. Thanks for the value added.
