Two facts I seldom see pointed out in these sorts of stories: One: You do <b>not</b> need to equal your corporate income in order to enjoy the same ot better life style. Many people neglect to factor in the often significant costs of having a job, especially if long commutes, business travel, frequent entertainment etc. are part of the job. Two: For the folks feeling the need to keep a job they hate strictly because it provides"benefits", analyze carefully what those vaunted "benefits" actually are. "retirement benefits", as one example, virtually don't exists an longer. You can often do better with a self-managed retirement plan. In general, whatever your salary is you are providing royughly three times that value to your employer, or you would have already been laid off ,,, so measure the "benefits" against the fact you are only being paid about one third of what you are really worth. Private health insurance, etc. may not look so expensive if seen in that light. Excellent interview, very informative. I am on maternity leave and have to go back to my 50+ hr a week job tomorrow!!! My husband has also started a new buisness and we are both motivated but were just getting the place ready. I have to go back to work because we need the income to get this new buisness going plus we need the benifits. I just hate my job though and am pleading w/ my husband that I would like to stay home w/ the kids. He keeps telling me to hang in there for awhile and when this buisness takes off I can quit!! Im am crying inside cause Im am dreading the corp world I am returning to. Im already tensing up just thinking about walking in the doors!!!! I want to stay home with my new baby and my other children. Thanks for motivating me .. I am totally looking into this now! This is a very inspirational story.
